Parker Truitt of Jefferson Township, Adams, Ohio

No reliable research exists for Parker Truitt. Future research seeks to remedy this problem and contribute new information to the knowledge pool. Registration of births, deaths and marriages were not compulsory during Parker Truitt’s lifetime. No known church or Bible record names Parker’s parents, his spouse or descendants. Parker penned his last will and testament before July 1844 when the Court granted Samuel S Mason, letters testamentary. The records that would have been created in the administration of Parker’s estate, showing his legal heirs and representatives, do not appear to have survived the courthouse fire of 1910.

According to an inscription on the headstone for Parker Truitt in Copas Cemetery, Blue Creek, Adams, Ohio, he died on 7 June 1844 in the 81st year of his age. The headstone for his wife Rhoda shows she predeceased him by sixteen years, age sixty-five. However, according to research of the 1990s, Copas Cemetery, Blue Creek, Adams, Ohio did not exist in the 1840s. Moreover, Jefferson Township is about one-hundred miles from Copas Cemetery and it seems unlikely a horse drawn cart would have carried Parker Truitt’s coffin that distance for burial.

The purpose of future research is to present evidence that establishes Parker Truitt’s identity and children he produced by his wife or wives. Several men of the same name are candidates.

1.            Parker Truitt, resident Broadkiln Hundred, Sussex, Delaware, 1776 described as nephew in the will of Micajah Truitt.

2.           Parker Truitt, located in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania in close proximity to Anderson Truitt between 1800-1814.

3.           Parker Truitt and his wife Rhode of Scioto county, Ohio who purchase land from David Gharky, 1814 and sell it three days later to Stephen Smith.

4.           Parker Truitt who, with James Truitt and John Truitt appear in tax records for Scioto county, Ohio between 1826-1830.

5.           Parker Truitt who marries Eleanor Moore, Scioto, Ohio about 1827 then migrates to Indiana. Probably Parker 4 & 5 are the same man.

6.           Parker Truitt of Jefferson Township, Adams, Ohio who purchases land in 1816. Known associate is Samuel S Mason the executor of Parker Truitt’s estate after 1844. On 10 September 1738, Parker Truitt and Sarah his wife sell land to Daniel Young.

7.           Parker Truitt of Green, Ohio who purchased land from Joseph Kerr, on Stout Run, ca. 1814, no deed located. Parker is near George Truitt who holds land for Tevis or Tevit. Joseph Kerr is a bit dodgy.
