Unravelling the conflated identities of Priscilla Truitt and Priscilla Thompson, 1787-1790

Many Trees assert without evidence, Priscilla Truitt, widow of James Truitt who died in 1787, is Priscilla Thompson, daughter of John Thompson, who married second Benjamin Phillips. By correlating information found in court and deed records created by Prisicilla Truitt, widow of James between 1787 and 1790, and Priscilla Phillips, daughter of John Thompson, it appears two women bearing the same christian name, were active same time and place.

Because Priscilla Truitt, widow, was active in the administration of James Truitt's estate between 1787 and 1790 and she was still James' widow when Priscilla Phillips, named as the heir of John Thompson Sr., conveyed land in 1789, then Priscilla Truitt, widow of James, did not marry Benjamin Phillips, otherwise probate records created for James Truitt, in the Orphans Court of Sussex, Delaware, would have reflected that.
